LIMNOS - ACTIVITIES

In spring, scented Limnos reminds one of an endless floating flower show. You should definitely visit its vineyards. In the beautiful valleys of its volcanic soil, the aromatic white Muscat of Alexandria is grown, producing excellent white wines, while on the eastern side of the island the red Limnio variety is grown (‘Kalambaki’, as the locals call it) which is mentioned by Aristotle as Limnia Ambelos (Limnos Vine). Visitors here first muse over nature before raising their glasses; one’s eyes grow intoxicated with the beauty before even tasting one’s first sip...

If you are an adventure lover, you can practise some water sports, such as windsurfing or kite surfing on Keros beach, Avlona beach, Platy and Evgatis, and the beaches of Myrina.

If you have your own boat, or want to rent a boat to tour the island or reach a remote beach, you will have a unique experience.

If you are a bird watcher, you can visit the three unparalleled wetlands, namely, Alyki, Chortarolimni and Asprolimni (Salt plane, Grass Lake and White Lake). They cover a total area of 18,000 km 2 and have been declared Special Protection Territories as part of the NATURA 2000 Net - work. Here one can discover a rich variety of bird fauna, including more than 250 species of rare and endangered birds, such as two flamingo species, lesser kestrels and partridges.

If you are lucky, your eyes might catch one of the 80 deer living on the island. Since 1970 they have been the trademark of Myrina.
