Efstathios I. Varvagiannis (1805-1873) arrived in Plomari, Lesvos around 1860, loaded with the experience and knowledge of distillation from Odessa, Russia. In Plomari at that time, industrial production was in full swing, international trade was flourishing and the Plomari teacher of the Genus, Benjamin Lesvios, was laying the foundations of Modern Greece in the Aegean islands with the other Friends. The port was buzzing with life and many products were exported all over the world.

This fertile land and excellent climate give birth, to this day, to an unsurpassed variety of anise, a plant that plays a key role in the creation of ouzo, but also dozens of other aromatic plants that complement the wonderful taste of ouzo, the aroma of Greece.

In this place, Efstathios Varvagiannis started the process of the first distillation and production of excellent quality ouzo, which has since become known as Ouzo Varvagianni Blue. In the past years, five generations of the Varvagiannis family followed the path set by Efstathios Varvagiannis.

Faithful guardians of tradition, with love and great passion for the creation of unique ouzo, choose only pure, natural ingredients and watch with special care the distillation process.
