The Agricultural Cooperative of Lemnos - The Union, is the natural and legal continuation of the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Lemnos until 2012, under the auspices of which all the agricultural cooperatives of Lemnos were active. In 2012, with law 4015/11, the well-known Union, after merging with a variety of other cooperatives on the island, was transformed into a primary cooperative in its current form.
In 1937 the Agricultural Cooperative of Lemnos is founded by producers of the island. His main activity at that time is the collection and ginning of the well-known cotton of Lemnos. Subsequently and due to the increased outgoing migration of Lemnia, the cotton cultivation was gradually abandoned and the Agricultural Cooperative turned to winemaking.
Having as raw materials the red variety of Lemnos, one of the oldest varieties in the world which has remained unchanged on the island but also the white variety of Moschato Alexandria that had come to Lemnos since the 1970s and was cultivated modestly by some , the Cooperative started the production of the well-known dry and sweet wines of Lemnos.
The microclimate of the island but mainly the fertile volcanic soils of Lemnos, was and still is considered the top place where the gifts of the varieties unfold, giving wines of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).
